Riding Donkey & Elephant

Yeah, Ben was the happiest when he got the first chance to ride the donkey in Mummy’s homeland, Myanmar during our recent visit. As usual, we couldn’t miss to see our long-time-no-see friends in the zoo… Look at Ben’s smiles and Mo Mo’s expression when she was feeding Elly sugarcane :) We all had real fun riding Elly though it was so rocky. Elly, you rock!

Personally, I prefer children to play outdoor rather than indoor with toys or ipad or watching cartoon. I believe sunshine, fresh air, exercise and the right diet are the best recipe for their health. We try our best to take them out to park or beach or any place to run around on weekends or even weekday evenings. When we don’t have time to go out, at least we take them around the neighborhood to play with cats or feed bread to birds or hide & seek or just to pluck chillies from grandma’s garden. Sometimes, they play with sands near the garden too. I don’t know why Ben & Mo like to play with sand so much. Anyway, we had some kittens some time ago until the management of our apartment sent them away for some reasons :( It was just a few months Ben & Mo got to enjoy playing with 6 kittens every weekends or evenings. They enjoyed stroking them, play fishing with them, running around with them etc. In a way, those kittens really resembles Ben & Mo because in a minute you can see them cuddling and the next minute they will be wrestling!
How I wish our kids can climb the trees and make houses on the hills like we did when we were young. If only we could go back then..

Princess Booty @ 3

At 3, there are a lot of things that we need to record about our little princess such as the way she is. First thing is yes, her cute talks. She has been a chatty girl since she learned how to talk after 1 year. Now her chatting speed has risen and she can talk and ask questions non-stop until I have to beg her not to ask any more questions simply because I have no answer! Her favorite question is “why”. When she reads books or watches movie, she’d ask why this and that for everything that she sees. Sigh…

Since she turned 2, we start to miss her mispronunciations such as (wooky mouse for mickey mouse), pitito for potato, pikiyo for pokoyo as she’s getting them right along the way approaching 3. Now only a few funny words left that still make us smile – Sleeping Booty (beauty), ofa (sofa), lairlow (yellow) and lack (lick) etc. We teasingly call her princess booty or princess ofa because of that. And, she repeatedly still saying lack for lick. All those are cute things that we can’t hear any more sooner or later. Besides her cute talk, she is also the master of self-defense. It’s not that she’s got black belt for Judo. It’s just that she knows how to defend herself by responding by words especially to Ko Ko. When Ko Ko says “Mo Mo you are nuts”, she’d say “I am not nuts, you are nuts” :) It’s not that she knows what nut means. She simply assumes it’s something not good. Yea, she really has very sharp mouth and loud voice that won’t keep her passive for any bullies… That’s my girl!

Another thing is that she is crazy about pink color! Every little new thing with pink color, she will hold and treasure it for at least a day or days. Sometimes it could be just a flower or a cup or a bowl. Once she wake up from nap, she will look for it. Besides color, her favorite story now are 3 little pigs, little red riding hood and Goldilocks. Sometimes, she ask me to tell her 3 little pic story 3 times in a day. Sometimes, she ask me to listen to her story. Ya, she really like to tell stories be it real ones or her own creations. She has the talent of  and creating own stories by mixing a few stories that she knows and also making up her own songs with her own words. She usually sings songs when sitting on toilet.

Thinking about all those cute little things, I just realized that I am not ready yet to see her grow up fast. We haven’t got enough pictures and videos of her singing and dancing and telling stories.

Although she is potty and toilet trained, I still do not want to train her to go to toilet at night when she sleeps. I still want her to be baby. I still like doing baby things for her. I still let her enjoy her milk bottle although she can use the cup well. There are many things I want her to be baby-like.. Don’t grow so fast my baby…

Happy Birthday Princess Booty!

Our little princess has just turned 3. This time, her birthday coincided with CNY, so she got the chance to celebrate with her grannies and uncle. We had the cake cutting during our beach stay at Batu Ferrenghi. Both Ben and Mo got the first chance to really dip in the sea for the very first time. Especially Mo Mo really enjoyed dipping and walking in the sea. It was also amazing finding alive and dead star fishes for the first time too.

Concert 2012

It’s time for annual concert of Ben’s nursery. At first, Ben said “Mum, I don’t want to go to concert, I will go to Tesco on concert day.” I asked him why and then he said ” I don’t know how to dance”. But when the day really came, he was all excited and in good mood. He woke up early, took shower and got his costume ready in the morning. He let mum and teacher make-up for him. He did well singing and acting on the stage with a few songs. But this time, he had no special costume. But something special for him this time was a trophy rewarded to him for his best performance in “general knowledge” subject. He was really proud of it and couldn’t stop looking at it and talking about it. Ya, we had a chance to see his results and answer papers for this end semester test. In fact he did best for Maths (99 marks) and general knowledge (97 marks). His Mandarin was 75.. ha ha.. we are so proud of you Ben!

[email protected]

It’s time to update a little bit about Ben at the age of 5. If not, if he asks one day how he was at 5, I am not sure whether I can recall everything. Anyway, I don’t want him to upset after he reads this post one day. So, I will give more credits to his positive side rather than negative side. Well, it’s biased but I guess every parents should be biased in the sense that they should be more positive about their kids rather than being negative.

First, we are surprised that his Mandarin has super-improved in the past 6 months. Our neighbor was surprised after he suddenly talked to her fluently in Mandarin. The credit goes to his teachers and friends who speaks more Mandarin than English at school and, of course to Daddy who talks to him in Mandarin these days.

Second, his reading skill and Maths skills seem to be improved too. He tries to read book at home. But he is still better in reading English than Mandarin. He can also calculate just by thinking. As for writing, it is really funny that he sometimes mistakenly write similar letters and numbers such as b and d, 6 and 9, p and q. I had to relate them to pictures to make him remember whether turns left or right, up or down.

Third, more than often and before, he gives-in to his sister’s demands instead of fighting back. Yes, this little girl has mastered the art to “bully” Ko Ko at times. Recently, she is the chief TV controller of our house since she has learned to switch to her cartoon channels by recognizing the numbers on remote control. When Ben watches big boys’ cartoon, she will switch to little girls’ cartoon. Sometimes she simply monopolizes the toys. Ben is like helpless and just complains to us and grumbles but does not fight with her. So, Cat-Dog fight has reduced but we are left with the big task to control this little girl.

Fourth, he has learned to like new foods that he did not like before, such as beef, chicken, pork, prawn, squid, fish, sour soups, tomato, lettuce, peach, plum, ambala. He enjoys yummy gravy of Burmese style curry such as beef with potato, pork with potato. We are very happy that he is eating adult food. His new discovery is scrambled duck egg with butter, salt and pepper. Herbal egg too!

Fifth, his drawing skill has improved. There are many nice pictures we have not shared on this blog. i think he has got photographic memory that makes him draw some cartoon characters without looking at them.

The other side of him, well… as I said, is nothing to brag about but, to put it in better way, we still struggle in making him obedient. He often says ” let me do what I want” :). Now Mo Mo picked it up and said it recently. Another thing we may complain about is that he’s still slow eater. He’d be fast only after vigorous exercise like swimming or running around for football.

What else? We should not forget that he has been a VIP at his school because he has got privilege to play with toys or draw what he likes, while other kids write in evening classes. He’s got the power! to control the teachers. Some time ago, teacher asked him to write Mandarin but he wrote “I love You” full page :D . On top of that, we are moving him to a ‘better’ nursery with fun-learning environment rather than write, write, write again, all work, no play.  Anyway, he’s just 5-years-old,  so what do we expect? But, who knows he will miss his special friend if he leaves this current school. We caught them saying “bye bye” and “I love you” to each other when Daddy picked him up once.. ha ha.. :) :D

Fun Time Together

Ko Ko & Mo Mo are getting closer and enjoy playing together more than ever. Sometimes, they play peacefully with their own toys (e.g. one with Lego, the other with Blocks) but, sometimes one of them want the others’. They always look for each other and Mo Mo likes to follow what Ko Ko does. And, she loves to wear Ko Ko’s clothes. Look at her in Ko Ko’s shirts with naughty face in front of Ko Ko’s drawing pasted in our living room.

Bird Park, KL

This lucky boy sometimes gets to travel “just the two of us” trips with Daddy. This time, he took Aeroline Bus to KL and flew back to Penang. He was fine on the bus, busy drawing, reading, and weeing too :D

This time, he had great time with daddy’s family and also in the Bird Park with his cousins and aunty! He wasn’t afraid of the birds and was so daring feeding them. After coming back to Penang, he said “I want to bring mummy and Mo Mo to Bird Park” :)
